Kyodo World Service (KWS) is an English language news service produced by Kyodo News, Asia's largest news agency and Japan's news service of record. Headquartered in Tokyo, Kyodo News maintains 53 full-time news bureaus in Japan along with permanently staffed offices in Bangkok, Beijing, Hanoi, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, Taipei and other major cities around the world. Kyodo News International (KNI), the US marketing arm of Kyodo News, is headquartered in New York. KWS delivers approximately 250 stories on weekdays and about half that number on weekends.
Subjects cover a full range of topics from business, finance and the economy to government, politics, sports, entertainment and cultural events. Subscribers include international news agencies, large and small newspapers, TV and radio networks such as CNN, the BBC and CBS as well as financial information services, government and international agencies such as the United Nations, World Trade Organization, International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. Within Japan, KWS reporters staff all major government agencies and institutions including the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ministry of Financial Services, the Bank of Japan and the Tokyo Stock Exchange to assure subscribers that news bulletins, announcements and economic indexes show up on the KWS wires promptly and usually well ahead of most other international news services.
